Why we built WatchVault

A watch can stay with you for decades. The information around it should too.

WatchVault comes from years of working inside the watch industry. Again and again, I met people who had lost a watch or had one stolen, and who were left with almost nothing to go on. No serial number, no reference, no photos, no proof of purchase. When you have to describe a stolen watch to the police or an insurer from memory, you realize how much a simple, well-kept record would have meant.

The same story showed up in quieter ways. The receipt from a repair, the warranty card, the service invoice — they all end up in a drawer, then in another drawer, and eventually nowhere. A watch is often the longest-lived thing we own, so those papers matter for a very long time: for servicing, for resale value, and for insurance. Yet almost nobody has them organized.

And then there are the watches that are inherited. I have often spoken with people who received a watch from a parent or grandparent, with no papers and no story: no idea when it was bought, what was done to it, or what it is worth. The watch survives, but the knowledge around it is gone.

A digital vault would have made all of these situations easier. So I built one.

What WatchVault does

WatchVault is your watch collection's digital wallet. Each watch gets its own record with photos, specifications and documents, so everything is in one place and easy to find. Whenever you need it — to sell, to insure, or in the worst case after a loss or theft — you can generate a report with all the information in one click.

Legacy Access: from one generation to the next

Because so many watches are handed down, I created Legacy Access. You invite someone you trust, and they get read-only access to your vault. The next person to wear your watch receives the whole story with it — the documents, the history, the details — instead of having to search for paperwork that may not exist.

Free, and built with care

WatchVault is free and open to every collector, whether you own one watch or fifty. Sensitive information such as serial numbers, purchase prices and uploaded documents is encrypted before it is stored, and your data is never shared. It is built by someone from the industry, for the people who love these objects.

If you have ideas, feedback, or a watch story of your own, I would love to hear it at support@watchvault24.com.
